About Leah

Leah Wilson is an artist and avid whitewater kayaker whose work has been seen in gallery and museum venues since 1994.  Her paintings have been exhibited recently at Downtown Initiative for the Visual Arts in Eugene, Oregon, Julie Baker Fine Art and featured at the Wild and Scenic Environmental Film Festival in Nevada City, California, and Los Medanos College Art Gallery in Pittsburg, California.  Wilson’s work is in the collections of eBay, Inc., Adobe Systems, Inc., Namco Inc., as well as other corporate and private collections, and her photography has been featured in Common Ground magazine.

Ms. Wilson’s paintings are the result of the progression of her relationship with the places in which she has lived. They are slow explorations charting the creation of a personal sense of place, becoming intimately acquainted with the patterns in the landscapes and their subtle features, changes and cycles.  Ms. Wilson received her M.F.A. in 2003 from the San Francisco Art Institute in San Francisco, California and received her B.F.A. in painting and drawing from the Art Institute of Southern California in Laguna Beach, California in 1995 where she was the recipient of the institute’s merit scholarship.  She was born in Newport Beach, California in 1973 and currently resides in Eugene, Oregon.

When Leah is not making art she is out exploring rivers far and near. She has been addicted to running rivers since age 13 when her dad took her rafting on the Kern River near Bakersfield, California for her junior high school graduation. Since 1992 she has guided and taught whitewater kayaking on many rivers nationally and internationally.
